"United Auto Workers union members who went on strike Saturday at a Stellantis casting plant in Indiana are returning to work after ratifying a deal with the company.
Stellantis said that operations at the plant in Kokomo will resume late Monday after UAW Local 1166 workers voted to ratify the agreement. The two sides had announced a tentative agreement earlier in the day pending the ratification vote."
Kokomo skilled-trades committeeman Shawn Fain, at Local 1166, said he’s fairly certain the unions casting ballots today in Michigan will also vote it down.
“I’m definitely glad to see the results,” Fain said, after telling UAW leadership in a letter that in approving the deal “you might as well get a gun and shoot yourself in the head.”
The truth (from 2007): Fain, the skilled trades committeeman at Local 1166, told his members that he opposed the agreement in the council meeting last Monday. He gave them a part of the speech that he said he delivered: "Two-tier wages have no place in this union. ... If you vote for this agreement, you might as well get a gun and shoot yourself in the head."
The second day at the convention, I came in to find that I would be assigned to be a Sgt. At Arms, in an effort to keep me off the floor, meanwhile other staff who report to me weren’t assigned the duty. These are the types of petty games our leadership plays when you don’t kiss the ring! At least I wore my “Zero Fox Given” socks to appropriately label my attitude toward their pettiness.
We had a GREAT time meeting with supporters from Local 12, Local 14 and Local 1435 in Toledo yesterday! Thank you to everyone who joined us (Shawn Fain, Margaret Mock, Richard Boyer and Mike Booth) at Wheelin' on the Rocks.
Thank you also to the members in Toledo who helped put this together. If you'd like to host a meet and greet with Members United candidates in your city, reach out and we'll put an event on the calendar.
Here's Shawn Fain addressing supporters at our event in Toledo last week. "The members are fed up!!"
Thanks again to everyone who came out! Stay posted for videos from Margaret Mock and Richard Boyer from the same event.
Shawn Fain is leading the charge for his local to vote down contract with concessions
Shawn Fain, the Members United candidate for president, told The Intercept in response to information in the internal audit. “While the Curry Administration claims to be transparent, I find it shameful that the membership has been misled as to the actual value of the strike fund, and that our leadership has severely underreported that value”
Members of the United Auto Workers union appeared on Thursday to favor replacing many of their current leaders in an election that stemmed from a federal bribery and embezzlement scandal involving former union officials.
